Kanchanaburi
is connected by daily road and rail services
with Bangkok and other neighbouring provinces.
Air-conditioned
and non-air conditioned coaches frequently leave Bangkok's
Southern Bus Terminal throughout the day, departing every
15 minutes from about 5:00 AM until 10:00 PM for the 2 to
3-hour journey. Or take a mini bus from
Bangkok's Khaosan Road to go there within
2 hours.
Trains
leave the Bangkok Noi Railway Station (Thonburi
Train Station) two times a day for Kanchanaburi.
There
are several possibilities to get around in Kanchanaburi. Take a
guided tour of a local travel
agency or explore the province yourself by motorcycle.
Motorcycles can be hired for a reasonable price.
The
24 hour rental fee is for a scooter
about 200 Baht and for a bigger motorbike about 500 Baht. Gasoline
is compared with Europe cheap and there are countless opportunities
to refill your bike on the way.
The
city of Kanchanaburi can be discovered by motorcycle
or bicycle. You also can easily hire
a motorbike taxi or a ricksha
to get around in town.
The price for those trips should be negotiated
before you start up.
The
Night Market and the Food
Market are worth a visit. The Food Market
is locatet at the bus station and starts
daily at 6:00 PM. You will find there various local Thai specialities
and self made Thai sweets. The choice is huge and often unexpected
delicious.
The
Night Market is on Mondays, Thursdays,
Saturdays and Sundays located at the train
station. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays it is located
at the bus station.
